Linh Ung Pagoda - The Sacred destination in Da Nang, Vietnam
Located on Son Tra Peninsula, about 10km east from the center of Da Nang, Linh Ung pagoda is one of the famous spiritual tourist destinations that visitors cannot miss when coming to Da Nang – the worthiest city to live in Vietnam. It is considered as the most sacred pagoda in Da Nang.
Its back against Son Tra Mountain Peak, facing the South China Sea, on the right, there is Hai Van pass, on the left, there is Cu Lao Cham Island. Linh Ung Pagoda is the place of harmony between the sky, mountains and people.
Legendary
According to the legend, in the Nguyen Dynasty, during the reign of King Minh Mang, the fishermen detected a Buddha statue on a sandbank. Believing that was a lucky sign, they immediately established a shrine for worship. Since then, as the sacred Buddha blessed the calm waves and sea, the fishermen are able to work in peace for a long time. Therefore, this place was called “Bai But”.
The highlight of the construction
With the harmony of modern style and traditional architecture of the pagoda in Vietnam, Linh Ung pagoda is the largest pagoda in Da Nang. From a distance, pagoda emerged with gentle and kind Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva statue. The tile roofs with its dragon shapes winding everywhere from the pillars to the balustrades and sophisticated sidestep making this statue more solemn.
The main Shrine is the most solemn and serene place with a large capacity. In the middle, there is the statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, on the right is the statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva statue, on the left is the Buddha Tripitaka Statue, four Guardians and 18 Arhats are arranged by a rule to protect the main shrine.
One of the most outstanding features is that the Buddha statue of the Bodhisattva is the highest one in Vietnam with 67 meter high. Inside this statue, there are 17 specialized storeys, each storey has a total altar of 21 Buddha statues with different shapes, facial expressions. The residents believe that the Buddha statue of the Bodhisattva would bring good fortunes, help them overcome the difficulties in their life and give them the power to deal with adverse weather conditions.
Located on the top of the mountain, visitors can enjoy the spectacular panoramic views of the South China Sea and the entire city. At 693m altitude, you will have the chance to see a modern, bustling city and long white sand beach which would help you reduce the stress and nervous tissues in daily life.
